Reviews of External Hard Drives
By Droggio
All the external hard drives have several things in common, and I’d like to review them here.
Basically, an external hard drive is a hard drive located outside of a computer. There are several types of external drives including SCSI and SATA models. Every external HDD has the same mechanism as an internal hard drive, i.e. a typical disk drive placed inside an enclosed structure. Moving heads the external disks have are also the same. The most significant benefit of an external hard drive is that it can tolerate much more physical shocks than internal drives.
External hard drives can be used with every existent operating system including Windows (except for the earliest versions), Linux and Mac. As for Mac, the older generation Macintosh PC’s hard drives were not user-friendly thus the company came up with and external hard drive as a solution. The early versions of external drives were big and bulky (unlike recent models).
External hard drives are preferred due to their high durability. Most people would rather use an external hard drive to store data than any other type of storage media. When you buy such a device most dealers give a warranty for a year or more. External disks are popular with people who want to save on working space and have their data always at hand.
USB Hard Drives
USB hard drives are essentially standard hard disc drives that can be easily connected to a computer via universal serial bus (USB) port. Most of the USB hard drives that are available have a size capacity of up to one terabyte, therefore they provide quite a large space for storing data. These USB hard drives are ready to use and the connection process is quite simple as all you need to do is just plug it in.
Some USB drives have drop protection which helps to prevent damage to the hard drive keeping your data safe. The level of the drop protection varies on the type, the model, and the manufacturing company. Technically, USB hard drives are external hard drives and they can be used to store and transfer data from one computer to another. The device has a universal USB port that’s why it can easily fit into most computers and can operate in all operating systems provided they have the necessary interfaces.
These compact USB hard drives are a great benefit to people who are on the go as they are simple to set up, use and can be used anywhere where you can find a computer. They are especially useful for businessmen and students who need to carry some specific data with them (like documents and presentations). All they need is to plug their USB hard drive to a computer and access their data.
