Choosing a Transmission Jack
62A transmission jack is one of the tools that is needed in all workshops these days. It is used during standard repair works on vehicles. Transmission jacks are flexible and can be used in a very versatile manner. Basically they are lifting systems that come with many uses which revolve around repair and maintenance jobs.
Due to their design, transmission jacks are very different from conventional jacks. Conventional jacks lift vehicles with the point of contact being the chassis. Sometimes the axle is used. But with a transmission jack the situation is a bit different. In any case, you have to use all the necessary mechanisms in strict accordance to its manual to ensure that the effectiveness of the transmission jack is maintained.
Transmission jacks come in different designs suited for specific types of vehicles, but all of them serve the same purpose. Cars and trucks with lightweight transmission systems should be handled with transmission jacks that have a capacity of up to 1000lb.
An OTC 1728 transmission jack is an example of a typical tool for those whose vehicles have lightweight transmission systems. For heavier vehicles, a car owner needs to use a heavy duty transmission jack to do the job.
Usage of Transmission Jacks
Transmission jacks are used when a vehicle has problems with its transmission and these problems need to be fixed. This jack is used to lift a vehicle transmission by placing it below the vehicle at a central position. The vehicle is normally lifted so as to remove and place back its transmission.
Transmission jacks have different capacities designed for different car models and weights. For lightweight cars a 1000 lb capacity transmission jack will be more than enough. Most garage owners have standard transmission jacks they can use for different types of vehicles. There are heavy duty transmission jacks that are normally used for heavy trucks and other heavy vehicles.
There are high and low profile transmission jacks and using them will depend on dimensions of your garage. Smaller garages can go well with low profile transmission jacks.
Characteristics of different jacks such as quality, weight capacity and brand are different, that’s why you should expect that their prices will also vary. High profile transmission jacks cost more since they perform heavier work and are stronger and more reliable.
Your particular choice of a transmission jack will depend on your needs and the money you are able to spend. But it is important for you to keep the quality and performance in mind as well.
